That is NOT a Good Idea

By Mo Willems

I have always loved Mo Willem’s books, and the children I read them to always seem to as well. Whenever I have read one of his stories aloud to a child, th61SbyULFtdL.jpgere is no shortage of laughter and entertainment. This story is just as lovable as Willem’s others, such as Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.

Each character comes to life through the simple yet lively illustrations that are detailed with quotes above the character. The quotes make the audience more aware of which character is speaking and make it seem more interactive and fun. The black backgrounds with white text and detailed borders resemble an old silent film. The audience becomes an ally of the main character, prodding her not to continue her journey with the wolf who is tempting her to do various dangerous things. The common phrase “That is NOT a good idea,” usually said by parents, can be repeated again and again so that the audience and characters begin to have a dialogue. It is definitely a good idea to read and enjoy this story!
